Yesterday, at the sensible age of fifty-seven, I was caught in a criminal act - that of boarding a train without a ticket. I was fined a huge amount: 2000 kr, or just under £200, or just over $200.
It didn’t matter how many times I tried to explain the situation to the ticket controller:
